Happy New Year,
Welcome back to a new school semester for those who are in school and for those who are not from your holiday break. The program board welcomes you to a new year and we just appreciate your loyalty to yourself, your family, this group and your continent Africa.
I will like to use this forum to announce a new monthly online newsletter which will come to you in form of a face book email or you can check it on our website. We will like to have all schools inform us of events going on in your various campuses that you will like to inform the public or things you are doing. Please give us your submissions every last Friday of the month. We will also like you to include pictures so we can add on the website and in our biannual magazine.
A few updates.
•Our Leadership Conference is coming up in two weeks. January 23rd to be precise. Please try to attend. It will be very informative and will definitely build networks between schools and the community. If you have not registered for it yet please visit our website at www.africanstudentassociationmi.com. The event is totally free. Please try and carpool with others if you need a ride.
•We have also been invited to March in the January 18th Martin Luther King March. Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior High School will host its first annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute March at Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior High School, 3200 E. Lafayette, Detroit Michigan, on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. The purpose of the march is to honor the legacy of Dr. King through education and provide an opportunity for the local community to join forces in assuring the life of the legacy.
We can also use this opportunity to denounce all association with this terrorist label they are trying to link us with. When someone sees you they will not say you are Nigerian or Eritrean. They will say you are African. How many people do you want to explain to that you are or aren’t a Nigerian but from Cameroon or Cape Verde. Please let’s come together and represent in our African attire either by Head wraps or African hats for the guys. It will be cold so dress appropriately.
•Please the deadline for Early Membership Registration for 2010 – 2011 is February 28th. Its $5.00 which after, it will be $10.00. Visit our website for more information.
•Our intern and executive board application for 2010/2011 are also up on the website deadline for submission is also Feb 28th.
•If you will like to be a contributor to our editorial team please email us at info@africanstudentassociationmi.com
